The University of Kentucky football team made a scholarship offer on Monday and the University of Louisville made one over the weekend to South Warren junior defensive tackle Adrian Middleton after watching him work out last week, defensive coordinator Brandon Smith said.

The 6-foor-4, 275-pound player is thought to be just the fourth in-state junior to have an offer from the Cats and Cards – joining Trinity’s Reggie Bonnafon (U of L commitment), Conner’s Drew Barker and John Hardin’s Matt Elam.

“I think he’s an elite player,” said Smith, praising Middleton’s size and mobility.

U of L running backs coach Kenny Carter visited South Warren last week for one of the Cardinals’ first signs of interest in Middleton, but they almost immediately decided to offer after seeing him, Smith said.

UK offensive coordinator Neal Brown and defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh also came and recorded some footage to show head coach Mark Stoops, who watched it after returning from the NFL draft and decided to offer.

He had previous has offers from Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State and Indiana State.

Florida, with primary recruiter/wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, is among other schools to have visited the school and expressed interest in Middleton.

In addition, WKU made an offer to South Warren safety/outside linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe (6-2, 205), joining Indiana State. UK and U of L are evaluating him.

Middleton and Iyiegbuniwe are the first major college prospects for South Warren, a 3-year-old school that has played only two seasons of varsity football.
